BARK COLLARS IN TRAINING
A big component in the effectiveness of our bark collars has a lot to do with the training involved in using them. We are providing you with the tools necessary to quickly and safely transform any noisy dog into a well behaved friend. Each bark collar comes with a Training Guide, but here we have also included a step by step tutorial to better prepare you with all the knowledge necessary for success.
- Introducing the dog to the Bark Collar
In the beginning it is important to introduce the dog with the bark collar while it is deactivated. It is recommended to spend at least two days this way. Otherwise, you might develop problems in utilizing this method properly on account of your dog fearing the new bark collar. The overall purpose behind the bark collar is to train the dog and not to punish.
Day 1
- Having a positive incentive is vital. For a dog, a small food reward will work well. It must be something small that this dog finds very desirable, so that he or she will accept it every time.
- Once you have selected a treat for a reward, place the collar around the dog's neck for approximately 2 to 3 hours. Refer to the product's operations manual to ensure the bark collar is fitted properly.
- Make sure the collar is fitted in the same fashion that it will be once the collar is activated in the next stage of training.
- After the collar has been on the dog's neck for a short period of time, it is time for a reward. Repeat this reward several times while the dog is wearing the collar.
Day 2
- Continue to repeat the procedure from day one over a 5-6 hour period.
Day 3
- Once the dog is comfortable wearing the bark collar, it is time to activate the collar. This should be the first time the dog receives the correction.
- Training with Bark Collars
Before you begin training the dog with the activated bark collar, you will want to carefully select the situation it will be used in. For this you will want a setting that the dog can easily learn in and with the fewest distractions. Otherwise the dog may misinterpret the corrective response as a result of an outside source and not his barking. It is also important that the owner be present for this experience.
- What to expect from the dog while training
When the dog first receives the corrective response from the bark collar, the dog may be startle and yelp. This is not because the dog has been hurt, but rather that the dog was not expecting the pulse. There is no reason to be alarmed. Once the dog makes the association between the barking and this new sensation, the barking will stop and the dog will remain calm. It will not take long at all to see positive results, but this does not mean the problem has been solved. It is important to stick with the training, as the dog will attempt to test their boundaries with this new system.
